1938: Uitvinding elektrofotografie (Carlson)
• Drum die elektrostatisch geladen werd → Inktdeeltjes aantrekken en overbrengen op een substraat
1949: Eerste commerciële elektrofotografische copier ‘Xerox Model A’
• Toestel zendt licht uit op het origineel → Weerkaatsing van het licht activeert de drum en zorgt ervoor
dat er inkt op de drukkende delen komt en geen inkt als er geen licht is
• Xerografie
o Synoniem voor elektrofotografisch drukprincipe

2.1 DIGITAAL DRUKKEN
‘Digitaal drukken’ of ‘digitaal printen’?
• Verwarring mogelijk met offsetdrukpersen
o Offsetpersen: Aluminium drukvorm die buiten de machine wordt belicht en ontwikkeld en
daarna op de drukvormcilinder gemonteerd wordt
o Er is een andere manier van offset ontstaan waarbij de drukplaten direct digitaal op de
drukpers worden vervaardigd: De silicone drukdrager wordt op de drukpers belicht
→ Digitaal maken van de drukvorm
▪ Geen variabele data: Je kan niet zomaar elk beeld gaan wijzigen
• In andere talen geen probleem: To print, imprimer…

Digitaal drukken = Een reproductietechniek die geen gebruik maakt van een permanente plaat
• Klassieke druktechnieken (offset, flexo, zeefdruk…) hebben dit wel
• Het digitale beeld wordt direct gedrukt op het substraat, geen platen nodig
• Werkt met toner ipv inkt
