Personal Values and Spiritual Beliefs

Values and beliefs are the important aspect of anybody’s life and growth and as human

beings we all have some beliefs, values and attitude that changes overtime. It has significant

impact on understanding, analyzing and decision making capability of an individual. Our friends,

family, experiences and community contribute to these values and beliefs and shape our decision

making capabilities in the future. For me, understanding personal values and spiritual beliefs are

one of the most important aspects of individual’s growth and these open the doorway of self-

respect and respect of others, calmness, kindness, understanding other’s pain, etc. (Glanvill John,

August 30, 2013) One of my most important spiritual beliefs is “Live and let live” as all the

individuals, whether animals, trees, insects and human beings has equal life and have the right to

live. This is one of my core values as well that helps in making decisions. Calmness is one of the

most important personal value in which I want to live my life. Thus, these personal values and

issues like physician assisted suicide, abortion, animal testing, contraception, in vitro fertilization

and the protocols that govern end – of – life care (Moffit Robert E., Mashall Jennifer A., et al,

May 15, 2006). Although, these concerns are deepening on the basis of cost, quality and social

issue but these are driven by anxieties over cost and access to health care coverage and quality of

care.

One of my spiritual beliefs is “Live and Let live” but in healthcare the medicines are first

tested on animals. This action results in increase in sufferings of animals but is important so as to

generate the most effective medicine for man that can reduce sufferings. Furthermore, the quality

of medicines are also improved using the same method and is important for the advancement in

biological and medical knowledge, which is in contrary to my belief as this action results in

harming of animals. Furthermore, another issue that affects the health care policy is the physician

assisted suicides. These are also committed so as to end the sufferings by means of death. This

act is often agreed because firstly, physicians have an obligation to relieve sufferings and pain

and promote dignity of the dying patient in their care. Secondly, according to the principle of
