Milestone 2: Draft of Legal and Ethical Considerations
offenders have some overlapping issues where as trauma victims are in a circle of different
issues. In prison, many offenders, both violent and non-violent focus their time on surviving
rather than furthering their education. “The observed difference in inhibition between violent and
non-violent offenders in the current study may indicate that the prefrontal deficit is more
pronounced in violent compared to non-violent offenders.” (Meijers, J., Harte, J. M., Meynen,
G., & Cuijpers, P.2017) This shows an issue with recidivism. Many prisons do offer GED, High
School diploma programs and some offer trade schools and college programs. There are also no
mandated drug use rehab programs. Offenders tend to find ways to have drugs smuggled in and
thus never get clean. This, then leads them to chase their high on the outside again and thus end

triggers set off flashbacks as well as “day-mares” that cause the limbic system to take over in a
flight, fight, freeze manner that causes the person to be in very awkward situations. People with
these issues may not realize that the issues are fully connected and see it as an issue. If this is
happening to a minor, it gets even more difficult. The minor’s parents are required to authorize
all treatments and if one or both are the cause for the trauma, the leash maybe pulled pretty tight.
“Parent mental health influences the trauma symptoms that are experienced by the
child.”( Vaplon, Carly S.2015)
Across all three there is always the issue of confidentiality. This is the biggest ethical
issue there is. There has to be that confidentiality in order to have any potential patient the
