P1- Describe the duties of entertainers and the qualities and skills required to fulfil them.
Holiday entertainers have many qualities, skills and responsibilities to ensure that they
are effectively fulfilling their role. There are many roles that they could choose- e.g.
magician, singer, dancer, or an actor. The entertainers have a duty to ensure they
perform to the best of their ability by using their own individual qualities and skills.
Holiday Entertainer- Magician
This holiday entertainer performs magic tricks to entertain tourists. There are multiple
qualities and skills that a magician must possess to
ensure they can perform their magic tricks/illusions.
Qualities
Magicians need to be interactive and possess unique
skills- Magicians are multi-talented. Magicians need
to be interactive to encourage children/tourists to be
involved with the tricks and shows that they
organise. When tourists participate the magician is
usually motivated to perform harder tricks/illusions.
For instance, the magician may ask a member of the audience to make a balloon to
entertain the audience. They are multi-talented as they have the quality to exceed the
needs and expectations if different audiences. Their talents usually change depending on
the average age of the audience.
Skills
Magicians need to have a reasonable understanding of the routines and techniques that
they use when performing to an audience. Whilst magicians perform, they need to be
aware of safety precautions as the tricks could potentially harm them or their volunteers.
All magicians must have the skills to ensure public safety is kept to the correct
standards. The most important skill that a magician must possess is the skill to stay
professional. Creativity is key for magicians as they need to ensure their audience are
entertained and participate in the show. They have a responsibility to offer an
outstanding performance.
Duties
Before shows, magicians are required to learn their tricks and ensure that they are
professional. The magician would need to complete rehearsals before their shows to
ensure that they have the ability to perform all the magic tricks and illusions. They are
required to perform in all shows that they are scheduled to attend and perform for the
duration that was agreed. They need to ensure that all health and safety procedures are
followed to keep the audience and themselves safe throughout their performance. They
need to have the ability to gage whether the audience is enjoying themselves and know
how to ensure that they are- e.g. being motivated, enthusiastic and approachable.

This holiday entertainer would require specific qualities and skills to ensure they are
consistently offering outstanding performances for their
audience. Dancers have many duties before, during and after
their performances- e.g. ensuring the audience are enjoying
the show, ensuring they are presentable and enjoying
themselves.
Qualities
Dancers need to have the confidence to perform in front of
large crowds- of any age group- whilst maintaining an
energetic and motivated persona. They need to ensure that
they are energetic and motivated so they can perform the
entire show to the best of their ability- thus keeping the
audience entertained and influence them to participate when
necessary. For instance, motivated dancers will be able to
provide an excellent show as they will be confident in their
performance. It is important for a dancer to be enthusiastic as they can then ensure that
the audience is entertained throughout the performance- thus exceeding their needs and
expectations.
Skills
Dancers need to feel comfortable with their routine and their abilities. They need to have
a public speaking skill, so they can announce different routines and talk when necessary
during their routine. They may be required to ask the audiences opinion about their
performance- to gather feedback regarding strengths and weaknesses. These skills will
allow the dancer to enjoy themselves whilst they are performing- so their confidence will
grow, and the audience will always remain entertained.
Duties
Before a performance, dancers will have to participate in rehearsals to ensure that they
are prepared for their show. This ensures that they are confident in themselves and their
performance- this will help them become mentally and physically prepared for the show
as they will present themselves confidently and professionally.
During the show, the dancer will need to perform to the duration that was agreed and on
the dates that were agreed. The dancer must ensure that the audience are engaged and
entertained- so they must perform to the best of their ability. It benefits the dancer and
the company as the audience will comment on the entertainment- positive feedback will
boost the dancer’s confidence and the company’s image.
