Brave New World

One type of the themes for Brave New World is destruction of the family. The society in

Brave New World has banned any relationships and bonds. The relationships of the father and

mother no longer functioned. People can not really experience love in this society. John and

Lenina start to feel these emotions in the novel, but they can not act like they have these

emotions in a constructive way because neither know how to have a relationship in their society.

The reason why the theme is destruction of the family is because the bond of marriage between

men and women is non-existent, rules when it comes to a physical connection and prohibiting

pregnancy.



In Brave New World, marriage and family are not normal concepts. Relationships

between castes are prohibited. They were taught that marriage and love is wrong. It will only

bring you irrational feelings and to them feelings are really not a good thing. They are not stable.

“Family, monogamy, romance. Everywhere exclusiveness a narrow channeling of impulse and

energy.” (Huxley 42) Marriage is unacceptable and they will allow it. In utopian society, they

believe that everyone should be able to be with anyone. Society has made everyone think that

marriage is this bad thing and no one should do it. They believe that you do not have to be tied

down and that there should not be any commitment whatsoever. Their mindsets are all

programmed.



In the utopian society, they are free to have sex with as many people as they want. A
