Introduction
Thesis statement:
The Trinity, simply put is a religious doctrine that explains that one God exists in three
manifestationsor three persons which makes up the concept of the Godhead. Within the Holy
Scriptures, the exact word trinity cannot be found although the biblical concept for the word is
found throughout all of the bibles. This Christian terminology is needed as a way for mankind to
describe the divine nature and many different aspects of God. In the Old Testament scriptures
some verses he is called the Father; in the New Testament, he is called the Son and later the Holy
Spirit.
Body Paragraphs
Within Christendom, there was a need to explain the nature of GodInscripture, because
God is described as being one God “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one”
Deuteronomy 6:4. or One Person, but in other scriptures is show him to exist as three distinct
manifestations “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man
Christ Jesus” 1 Timothy 2:5.“The co-equality debate over the concept of the trinity was
completed at the council of Nicea; later the debate of the Holy Spirit was settled by the works of
Athanasius and Basil of Caesarea” McGrath, Alister E., 1953.
“Matthew 3:16-17And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water,
and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased”.
