How did the girl end up in the hospital?
-She was pregnant
-She had fallen in the street.

-Mr Bumble named the orphans according to the alphabet and the
next letter was ‘T’.
Why were all the workhouse children pale, thin, and ill?
-They were always hungry.
-They each got only a small bowl of gruel which was not nearly
enough.
How Many times a day were the fed?
-Three times a day
What is gruel?
-It’s a liquid /watery food of oatmeal, boiled in milk or water -
mainly meant for invalids.
Why did thy eat very quickly?
-Because their food wil be taken from the stronger and bigger
children
What did the boys’ desperation for food led them to?
-They chose Oliver to ask the master for more food.
How did the master react to the scared little boys’
request? -He shrieked, grabbed Oliver by the collar of his
thin shirt and angrily shouted Mr Bumble (the beadle) had to be
called.
What is Mr Bumble’s outward appearance and his nature?
-He was a big, fat man who wore a big hat and carried a long, thin
stick.
-He was a bad-tempered man.

-He beat him with a stick and threw him onto the ground. After
that he was locked up in a dark room.
How is the “for sal” notice the put up different than any
other “”for sale” notices one always sees?
-Instead of the parish getting money for what (in this case the boy,
Oliver) they were selling, they wanted to pay someone to take
him!
Why die Oliver have no option but to flee(run away Was
was any of his options better that the other?
-He had to because if he stayed in the dark room, he would die
and if he got a new master, he might be killed (in both cases he
would be dead!)

-There was a large stone outside the town.

What did Oliver think he was going to do once he gets in

-He thought that he could get work and start a new life.
How did Oliver survive?
-He sometimes begged for food.
Oliver was too hungry and exhausted to continue his way
to London. He sat down next to the road where he saw a
boy. What was so ‘strange-Looking’ about this boy?
-He wore a man’s coat that was too big for him, and an old hat on
the back of his head.
-He had small nose that turned up and a dirty face.

-It was a town near London. He decided to rest there.

streets were full of poorly dressed people. The noise and
darkness made Oliver scared .What does this tell us about

very close to each other and that it rarely gets cleaned
-Poorly dressed people: It can be people the work mostly at the
factories, and don’t have money to buy better clothes of they
dress like that work.
-Noise and darkness: Noise is that there are many people living in
the small homes, or it can be the bisness that run at night of
animals.

-He whistled a secret whistle.
How did the house look?
-The house was very dark inside
-It had broken stairs

Why was it so dark inside the room they entered? Supply
