– Zuiveren van ingeademde lucht door mucuslaag geproduceerd door
seromuceuze kliertjes en slijmbekercellen
– Immunologisch door oppikken van allergenen en antigenen in de ingeademde
lucht (dendritische cellen in epitheel en lymfoide elementen in lamina
propria) en IgA productie (plasmacellen in lamina propria)
• 2 componenten in linker en rechterneusholte:
– Vestibulum nasi
– Eigenlijke neusholte (nasale fossa)

• Overgang huid en eigenlijke neusholte
• Begrensd door septum (zonder kraakbeen/bot) en neusvleugels
• Meerlagig verhoornd plaveiselepitheel met zweetklieren, sebumklieren en vibrissae
→ meerlagig niet-verhoornd plaveiselepitheel
→ cuboidaal tot columnair epitheel
→ pseudomeerlagig trilhaarepitheel

• Respiratoire mucosa = respiratoir epitheel op een sterk gevasculariseerde lamina
propria die sereuze en muceuze klieren bevat
• Neusseptum
– Distaal hyalien kraakbeen
– Proximaal bot
• 3 conchae < os ethmoidale
– Onderste en middenste bekleed met respiratoir epitheel
– Bovenste bekleed met reukepitheel
