P3- Describe the skills needed to run the business
You will require a number of skills to start and run a business. It is important to identify the skills
you need to develop or improve so that you can succeed in your day-to-day business operations.

Soft skills are personal attributes that allow someone to communicate with other people. Hard
skills are teachable abilities, for example, typing speed, machine operations etc. The five soft
skills I believe are most appropriate for my business to work effectively are:

Strong work ethic

Work ethic is a set of values based on the ideals of discipline and hard work. Forming good habits
such as focusing, staying motivated, finishing tasks immediately, and more helps to create a good
work ethic that will impress employers. By having a strong work ethic, it can get a business like
mine into a much better position than those who don't. This is because work ethic is the belief
that hard work and diligence have a moral benefit and an inherent ability; and therefore, if
someone does not have a good work ethic, it can lead to them not knowing what to do which is
negative for the company. An example of bad work ethic is the lack of productivity. An employee
who rushes through assignments or waits until the last minute to complete them often turns in
lower quality work, as well as running the risk of missing a deadline. However, if an employee
had a good, strong work ethic, this wouldn't happen. As well as procrastination and productivity,
attendance is also a bad work ethic. A positive work ethic means showing up on time every time,
and using sick days for their designated purpose. But someone with a negative work ethic will
often show up late and taking full advantage of sick days and other dates. I would personally
rate myself with an 8/10 when it come to work ethic; this is because I would want to see my
business succeed, and therefore it means being determined and having a work ethic to do so. I
wouldn't see the point in having a business or working if you wouldn't be productive and show
up on time.

Communicational skills

Communicating is the exchange of information with another person by speaking, writing etc. An
owner will need to communicate and negotiate with suppliers, potential investors, customers and
employees. Theres many different types of communication and ways of communicating. For
example, email, text, calls, conference calls etc. Having effective written and verbal
communication skills will help the company to build good working relationships. Its needed in
business as a way to tell people within the company what decisions have been made, present
ideas or if theres an emergency etc. As well as this, different departments can communicate with
each other in the workplace. Having good communication skills is essential to my business as it
allows myself and my employees to communicate with each other effectively in conversations or
negotiations for us to ensure that we finish our aims and goals. Additionally, it will allow me to
have a good relationship with my employees and customers. I would personally rate my self an
8/10 for communication, this is because I am able to give my point across effectively to others
verbally. I also am able to listen to other people and ask them questions if needed to.
