seguir algunes de les idees de progrés i racionalització de la
Il·lustració sempre que no atemptessin contra el poder de la
monarquia absoluta.

• Carles III accedí al tron en morir el seu germà Ferran VI sense
descendència.
• Ja regnava a Nàpols on havia entrat en contacte amb les idees
il·lustrades.
• Va arribar a Espanya per fer-ne càrrec de la Corona, envoltant dels
seus consellers italians i va intentar aplicar un programa de
reformes per modernitzar el país seguint els principis del despotisme
il·lustrat.
• Campomanes, Floridablanca, comte d’Aranda, Olavide i Jovellanos
van proposar mesures que pretenien modernitzar i racionalitzar
l’Estat.
