H1 | Wat is postpositivisme

Epistemologie – wetenschap die alles over het kennis/weten bestudeert, wat is ware kennis:
Foundationalisme - om iets kennis te noemen, moet het ergens op gebaseerd zijn

2 stromingen (20ste eeuw realisering dat geen van beide absolute basis kon zijn voor kennis, non-
founditionalist benadering)
1. Rationalisme - verstand als basis van kennis
- Decartes
- Zintuigelijke ervaringen kunnen illusies/vergissingen zijn

2. Empirisme - ervaring als basis van kennis
- John Locke, ‘verstand is tabula rasa/blank papier’
- Combineren ideeën: ontkennen niet dat verstand een rol speelt
ideeën komen voor uit ervaringen
kennis legitimeren op basis van ervaringen, anders is het speculatie

Uit empirisme ontstaat
3. Positivisme – ervaring/feitelijke/empirische wetenschap als basis van kennis
- Augustus Comte, dé wetenschappelijke methode: kennis obv redenatie waarneming
- Geen zintuigelijke waarneming/bewijs: niks over gezegd, betekenisloos/speculatie
- Zorgde voor operationele definities: concept betekenisloos als niet kan worden gemeten

Misconcepties over positivisme:
- Niet perse altijd positivistisch wanneer positivist iets zegt
- Niet altijd de experimentele methode te promoten
- Niet tegen kwantitatieve methoden
Realisten genoemd, zinloos om claims te maken over realiteit want het gaat om wat we
wél kunnen zien/ervaren
Relativisme - geloven in 1 ultieme waarheid, bestaat werkelijkheid onafhankelijk van
menselijk bewustzijn

Problemen met Foundationalisme (including positivisme):
1. Relativiteit van ‘licht van de rede’:
Rede/verstand kan het soms fout hebben, door…

2. Theorie beladen perceptie:
Wat een observeerder ziet/niet ziet beïnvloedt door zijn achtergrond

3. Onderdeterminatie theorie:
Bewijs ondersteunt niet volledig 1 theorie, theorie is onderbepaald aan data/bewijs
Probleem bij claim dat alle kennis op ervaringen is gebaseerd: gat tussen data en theorie
(invloed van labels die al gebruikt worden bij observaties)

4. Duham-Quine thesis:
Bewijs is gerelateerd aan hele netwerk van ‘beliefs’, niet slechts 1 deel
Theorie kan niet worden bevestigd/weerlegd, dan deel van ‘belief-system’ aangepast
>Geen theorie beter dan een andere theorie

5. Probleem van inductie:
Nu het geval, in toekomst ook? Wanneer kennis alleen gebaseerd is op onze ervaringen,
kunnen we niks weten over wat we nog niet hebben ervaren in de toekomst
>Theorie kan nooit iets met zekerheid zeggen

6. Sociale aspect van wetenschap:
Wetenschappers behoren tot een gemeenschap, wat invloed heeft op onderzoek
