Unit 8: Recruitment and selection
Aim B: Undertake a recruitment activity to demonstrate the processes
leading to a successful job offer

Introduction
Chosen business; Tesco PLC
TESCO PLC is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer. It is the third largest retailer in the
world. The scope of the business is local, national, and international as they have shops from places such as next to
your local school to other countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic. In total Tesco has expanded into 13
countries outside the UK and has even entered new markets such as inline retailing and financial services. Tesco plc
would be classed as a large business as it has over 492,000 employees (2019).

As Tesco plc is such a big business, obviously you would need many different employees with different roles to
ensure that the business can work efficiently and meet targets. Some of the job roles are: Customer assistant, team
manager, shift leader, kitchen team member, pharmacy manager, warehouse operative and many more. For this
assignment I will be choosing the role of Customer assistant.

B.P3: Prepare appropriate documentation for use in selection and
recruitment activities.

Chosen job role: Customer Assistant.

Job description: Serving customers, Delivery department routines, manually condensing stock and handling
products, following company guidelines and responsibilities, occasionally accept deliveries into the store, be
knowledgeable about products and services in the store, replenishing products within the store etc.

Person Specification: A passion for delivery great service, the ability to take initiative and make decisions that are
right for the customers, work well within a team and communicate effectively, build relationships with customers, be
on time for work and properly presented.

With the internet access that we have today, apply for jobs is easier than a few years ago. Online there are multiple
different job sites and apps that people can use to apply for jobs. For example, Indeed, Reed, Total jobs, CV library,
Job site and many more. Another way to apply for a job is to go onto the company website directly and apply
through there.
However, with this process there are some advantages and disadvantages. For example, one advantage is that it is
very convenient, apply for a job can be done on your phone or laptop anywhere with internet access. A second
advantage is that is saves you a lot of money. Applying online eliminates the cost of printing resumes, cover letters
and paying for postage. However, one disadvantage is that there is a lot of competition. You, along with thousands
of people can apply for the same job at a time, especially if you a person who does not have much skill or
experience, competition is even tougher.

, Here is an example of the job advert on Indeed for Customer assistant:

Dear Hiring Manager,

After seeing this job advert on indeed, I am excited to be applying for the position of Customer Assistant at your
store on Chiswell Street.

There are multiple reasons why I chose to apply to Tesco as oppose to other superstores, one being because I am a
huge fan on the company and have been for longer than I can remember. A second reason being I love socialising,
interacting and meeting new people. I feel that having a sociable trait with be a huge advantage in my work and I
would be interacting with people on shift almost 24/7, ultimately increasing customer satisfaction and experience
which I know is one of the company goals.

Attached you will find my CV; I would like to thank you for your consideration and time. I am looking forward to
learning more details about the position and company.

Sincerely,
[NAME]
