Gun Control Act
The topic of gun control has been a highly debated topic in present day America.
Because of the increasing amount of mass shootings among the community, we regularly hear
about the rights of gun owners and mainly hear about the need for stricter gun control. The 2nd
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives us the right to “keep and bear arms”. The Gun
Control Act of 1968 was created not to breach that right but to protect the citizens from certain

Control Act of 1968 into law. The gun control act imposed stricter licensing and regulation on
the firearms industry, established new categories of firearms offenses, and prohibits the sale of
firearms and ammunition to felons and certain other prohibited persons (“Gun Control Act |
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives”, 2019). Controlling the sale of firearms
was a major concern for the government in the 1960’s. Allowing people to purchase firearms
