and effective training are ways to positively influence employee retention. Each of those factors
can be beneficial to a company in its own unique way.
Communication is the most important factor when it comes the employee retention.
Effective communication can positively effect employee retention because it promotes teamwork
and maintains a good employee-employer relationship. Employers can practice good
communication by listening and providing ways that employees can effectively voice their
opinions. Improved listening skillsin corporate environment help in relationship building,
knowledge, trust and employeeretention amongst others (Salopek, 1999). Employers can practice
effective communication beginning in the recruitment stage. Listening to what is important to
future employees is key to retaining them. For example, if you have a job where there are no
growth opportunities, don’t hire someone who wants a job where they can grow. Communication
in this stage also reduces future conflicts. Once an applicant is hired employers should have
surveys about the workplace so employees can voice their opinions. This will make the
associates feel a part of the organization because they will feel their opinion matters. Finally,
even when an employee wants to resign, employers should practice effective communication.
Listen to the employee’s reasons for leaving and try to think of ways to avoid these problems in
the future.
Offering rewards is another way an employer can increase their retention rate. Rewarding
associates for great performance, attendance, or great customer service will increase
productivity. When employees know they will be rewarded for their hard work, will make them
more likely to perform at their best all the time. Rewards could include recognition of workers,
non-monetary compensation, and internal benefits. Workers feel more respected when they are
