Preface
This report is written by three fourth year students:
Jelle Hoekstra, Logistics management student
Sophie Hoffman, Martime officer student
Kane van Dijk, Logistics engineering student
For the course maritime management and operations the group of students have to draw up
a report for a establishing their own shipping company. These students will be known as the
research team or team in the report. The report is written for the future start up of the
shipping company. The students within the research team also are managers in the
department of the shipping company.
The time frame in which this report has been drawn up is three weeks. The basics were laid
down on the 14th of October and the final details were added on the 3th of November.

Executive summary
JKS Shipping company will transport containers with smaller machinery and high-value
equipment, from Rotterdam (the Netherlands) to Santos (Brazil) to Cape Town (South Africa)
back to Rotterdam. The goods will be transported by the Santos Express which has a capacity
of 11.519 TEU.
JKS Oceanwide Shipping company mission states:
“JKS Oceanwide shipping company strives to enter a niche oligopoly market in machinery and
high value equipment for the countries needing these products. Our aim is to transport these
products frequently and efficiently while planting the seeds for the future welfare on
development countries.
JKS Oceanwide shipping company vision states:
“To offer a frequent and efficient liner service, which is profitable, while securing worldwide
balance in welfare and economic stability.”
JKS will operate in the liner transport market in an oligopoly industry. The company’s
competitive environment is analysed using Porter’s five forces model.
The current demand pathway predicts that container shipping market will grow at a
compound annual growth rate of 4,3 % percent through 2027.
The JKS oceanwide shipping company website will be the virtual business card and shipping
portfolio. It will be a simple, classy and well designed website with a clear lay-out. The
website had an easy access and is available for every browser.
The goal for JKS Oceanwide shipping company is to conquer a 0,5% of the total container
shipping market by 2025. This means JKS Oceanwide shipping will rank as the number
seventeen in the market. The goal of this project is to have a good running container
shipping company with liner trips between Rotterdam-Santos- Cape town. By this shipping
JKS hopes to do its part in securing worldwide balance in welfare and economic stability.
The management team consist of six departments:
1. Business (market) Development (CBDO)
2. Technical management (CTO)
3. Crew management (CCO)
4. Safety Health Environment Quality management-SHEQ (CQO)
5. Operational management (COO)
6. Financial management (CFO)
JKS is planning to have a positive cashflow for the coming five years.
