I. Introduction
Employees commuting to and from work utilizing public forms of transportation and
driving has always been the normal process for all workers across the country.
Employees across the country commute long distances to their office to sit at a desk and
work on a phone and/or a computer for 8-10 hours per day, and then commute back home
to address personal life tasks for their families. Factoring in 8-10-hour workday, then add
at most a total of four hours commuting round trip. This means an employee dedicates
12-14 hours every workday to their employer. It is important for the company to
acknowledge these adaptions and understand that employees can maintain the delicate
balance of work and personal life expectations while working from home and still be
productive.


A. Problem
1. Employees are becoming burnt out and taking unplanned time off which causes
problems with reliability and overall productivity in the workplace.
2. Employees taking 2-3 months leave of absences due to stress
3. High use of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that further lends to low
productivity
4. COVID-19 pandemic is causing further stress for employees who are faced with
childcare and home-schooling issues.

B. Solution
1. Allow call center employees the ability to work from home on a full-time bases which
will reduce their dedicated time for work to the actual 8-10 hours workday. This will
remove the additional 4 hours of commuting, which can be given to family and self-
care.
2. Unplanned time off will be reduced because of less stress. This may also lead to less
FMLA and medical leaves due to stress.
3. Allowing employees to work from home will allow the company to save money by
releasing any locations that are rented to house the employees.
4. Use saved money to have engaging activities to keep telecommuters connected and
engaged to alleviate any disconnected feelings.


C. Background
1. Studies have shown countless times based on not only surveys but also reports of
actual productivity management that telecommuting is something that drastically
helps in the overall grand scheme of things. It’s been proven time and time again that
companies that offer telecommuting as a way of business increases morale and boosts
productivity.
