Summary of Fay:
Narrative Realism

Human lives are enacted stories in which we are central characters on the
world’s stage? Does our culture enact some inherent narrative pattern? (Our
story is lived)
OR,
Are stories we or others tell instead mere constructions which we make up after
the fact in order to render our lives and culture meaningful? (Our story is told)
Multicultural experience of difference- What is the relationship between the
storyteller and the person whom I am telling the story about?
So, when I'm telling a story about someone else’s life whose is much different
than mine, will I use my own personal dispositions (which may not be significant
to the person or making up things in their life that wasn’t there before) or will I

, tell the story according to that person's life factually? This is the underpinning
of generating a genuine understanding of others.
Agency and culture- Culture is seen as an “ongoing process, not a static entity”
But, “cultures Are in part comprised of stories by means of which members
weave webs of significance, webs which makes sense of the past and inform
future choices”.
In order to understand multiculturalism, we need to understand the nature of
stories we tell about our own and others’ lives.

Narrative Realism-It claims that narrative structures exist in the human world
itself and not just in the stories people tell about this world. human lives are
already formed in stories before historians; therefore, true stories are found not
constructed. There is a natural beginning, middle and end. Human Lives set their
own context; birth is the beginning, death the ending and in between their
natural climaxes.

Does this mean people’s lives end with their physical death?
Example: Jesus (can their story continue beyond their grave?)
The beginning story of Jesus is encountered differently by different people, for
mark the story of Jesus started with his baptism (he was about 30 years old)
when God choose him as the chosen one (nothing was significant before this
point to him). However, For Matthew and Luke, Christ begins with his birth
(conception that fulfilled ancient prophecies). Who is wrong?

Is it clear that the story of human life must begin at birth?
In the Hindu culture- Ideology of reincarnation?
