Biological sex is influenced by two factors, which can be put in one of the two

categories, which are an individual's hormones, and the individual's genetics (Grison &

Gazzaniga, 2019).

The physical aspects of gender, or rather, an individual's sex is seen to be clear for many

people, simply through the knowledge that an individual is a boy or male if they were born with

a penis and an individual can be concluded to be a girl or female if they were born with a

vagina.

However, there are people out there who disagree with their given sex at birth and feel as though

inside they are truly another gender, like a male feeling they should have been female or the

otherwise reversed. The individual may also have abnormalities that are more congruent with the

aspects of the opposite gender and can be labeled as intersex. An individual may call themselves

gender fluid, transgender, gender non-conforming, cis males, cis females, genderqueer, gender-

neutral, androgynous, or even just male or female when they feel this way. Those same people

may identify as lesbian, gay, queer, pansexual, straight, or bisexual, and this can be further

considered as one's sexuality. This individual may even change their pronouns to fit their own

preferences. An example is a female pronoun like she, which instead turns into the male pronoun

like he, as this can stand for a girl that feels more like a boy. The intention of changing pronouns

for preference can be considered the substitution of an individual's gender pronouns in exchange

for the "correct gender" according to how this individual, personally, feels.


However, as far as this individual's biological sex is considered, it has been broken down

into four categories, which tell the aspects of an individual's biological sex and can reveal the

differences between male and female (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019). Examining multidisciplinary

sexuality means one must work from a global viewpoint to see how religion has influenced

sexuality. Previous studies on sexualities and religion focuses on politics and culture, religious

organizations and their messaging, demography, and identity creation and negotiation. Each

category can further be described into detail and be compared across countries and religions.

Explore limits and future prospects, including the necessity to integrate viewpoints that are non-

Christian as well as those that are not from the United States. Furthermore, the problematic

reliance on a sexual binary as an indicator of religious organizations for the tolerance associated

with sex. Studying sexuality and religion is, indeed, a growing field with a number of areas that

deserve more research (Burke & Woodell, 2020). Therefore, as the reader continues throughout
