1. The digestive system
2. The cardiovascular system
These two systems have an important role in energy
supply to the body. The digestive system’s main
functions are absorption and digestion, while the
cardiovascular system’s main functions are the blood
circulation and delivering oxygen, nutrients and
hormones to the cells.
Each organ in the digestive system contributes in
moving food and break it in smaller parts.
This particular system has two process involved in the
digestion of food:
Mechanical process
Chemical process
Mechanical process involves the mastication of food
which breaks down the food in small pieces. This
process purpose increase the surface area so that the
enzymes can work efficiently.
Chemical process turns food broken down by the mechanical process into simpler
substances that can be absorbed by the body.
By breaking it down in smaller parts it enables their absorption into the bloodstream while
the waste that was not capable of absorption is passed out through the anus.
Since the small intestine absorbs most of the nutrients in the food, the circulatory system
passes them on to other parts of the body to store or use for example to the liver. The
capillaries in the villi of the small intestine are
responsible for transporting the nutrients to the hepatic
portal vein to the liver, then to all the cells around the
body.
The liver stores, processes, and delivers nutrients to the
rest of the body when needed.
Therefore the body uses nutrients to build substances
that are needed for energy, growth, and cell repair.
