DEFENITION
Psychopathology is the scientific study of the origin, development and manifestation of mental or
behavioural disorders. A psychological disorder is associated with a breakdown in cognitive,
emotional or behavioural functioning.
• It involves distress or impaired functioning and an atypical response (Barlow, 2015).
• The field is concerned with the nature and development of abnormal behaviour, thoughts
and feelings (Davison, 2004).
