Explain if big business leaders were "captains of industry," "shrewd businessmen," or

"robber barons."

Transformation of the economy in the 19th century was facilitated by the big business

leaders, this led to people referring to them as Robber Barons and Captains of Industry. The big

business leaders had power on their hands and they played a significant role in the Gilded age by

defining the character of the society. Consumers were deceived by Robber Barons in their ascent

to the top where they accumulated enough wealth to create more industries while creating job

opportunities as well as boost the economic growth. The leaders of the big business had great

desire for money and making profit was top on their list of priorities. They were shrewd

businessmen whose business made them so much money (billions) that they became dominant in

their lines of business (OpenStax, 2020). The big business leader ensured that the prices of goods

were too low for small businesses to match and still stay in business, they did this by utilizing the

control markets. Economic revolution ensued after the domination and the revolution impact is

still being felt to date. Therefore, it can be argued that the ways used by the big business leaders

qualify them to be referred to as Captains of Industry and Robber Barons.


Based on one of the resources noted for this option, assess American working conditions

and exploitation of workers in the Age of Industry.

Rapid industrialization was the major characteristic of the Age of the Industry during

which large populations of Americans relocated to areas adjacent to factories. Jobs that required

fewer skills attracted many workers to the factories and the jobs were available in plenty. There
