Explaining the purpose of the marketing team in ASDA
Introduction
In this task I will be writing about specific teams within a chosen business and what the purpose
of this team is within the chosen business. I will also explain the type of team and the business
that I am going to be writing about is ASDA and the different teams I will be writing about are
the Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing department as they have different teams with a
purpose within ASDA.
A team is a group of people that work together to achieve an aim or objective, for example, the
financial team may aim to increase revenue to £200,000 in a specific store. Teams may have
different purposes such as planning, problem solving or decision making.
Planning
The business that I will be writing about is ASDA, some of the teams that ASDA have are the
Human Resources, Marketing and Finance departments. The department I will be writing about
is the finance department this is because the finance department will have a team of
accountants and managers. The financial department’s purpose is to plan for the expenditure
of funds on various assets to help ASDA succeed in the short and long term, acquire funds for
the firm, and manage funds within ASDA. This means that the finance team will have to take
note of the current financial situation of ASDA and see how they can improve it. This would lead
to them finding how they can create a better financial system within ASDA and how they can
use their funds in a way that would Improve the operations and function of ASDA. For example,
if there was an increase in interest rates and the loans that ASDA had taken out had a variable
interest rate then the finance team would have to create a solution on how to be able to
balance the cost of the repayment for the loan without it affecting the finances of ASDA. The
type of team that the Finance team are is a permanent team, this means that they do not
dissolve after the task or goal is complete.
Types and purposes of business teams
To achieve goals
It is important for ASDA’s Public relations teams to achieve goals because then they will be able
to work more efficiently as they will have completed their tasks beforehand. This would mean
that they will be more likely to be achieving goals and that would mean that they will also have
more time to be innovative rather than continuously keep working on things that will set them
back. Therefore, the professional image of ASDA will be maintained, and the public will have a
positive impression of ASDA.

Increase efficiency and productivity
It is important that ASDA’s manufacturing warehouse are working efficiently and being
productive so that they are creating a lot of products in a short amount of time. This would
mean that they would be able to keep up with demand if there was for example an increase in
demand for ASDA branded products because they are cheaper than branded products. Due to
inflation people may struggle with money so they choose to purchase cheaper products.
Therefore, an increase in productivity would lead to an increase in competitiveness because
ASDA will be able to create products at a lower cost than their competitor.
To be innovative
It is important for ASDA’s design and technology team to be innovative because if they were to
create something that is efficient for consumers such as the self-checkout then consumers will
prefer to shop at ASDA. This would mean that ASDa will have a unique selling point in their
stores and that would help maintain a large amount of market share. Further to this, it would
also increase ASDA’s revenue because consumers will be shopping faster if they can do their
own checkouts and that would mean less customers in the store.
Explaining the characteristics of the finance team in ASDA
Clear lines of authority
Clear lines of authority means that the line of authority establishes a clear chain of command
that reaches from top to bottom in an unbroken line. This characteristic affects a team within
ASDA such as the finance team because they would be able to speak with each other within in
the team clearly. This would mean that the finance team would be able to communicate with
each other in an efficient way and if there was a problem within the team or task then the
members of the team with lower responsibility will be able to speak to a team supervisor who
has higher responsibility than them. Therefore, this would allow for the team to be able to
efficient overcome any challenges they may face whilst working in the finance department.
Conflict dealt with openly
Conflict being dealt with openly means that the team leader of the finance team in ASDA will
deal and handle with problems or conflict with the whole team rather than speaking to the
individual. This allows for trust to be built in the long term and it will assist the team in finding
better solution and developing a solid foundation of teamwork. This would mean that if for
example, there was conflict within the finance team within ASDA and the team leader dealt
with it openly then everyone would be able to openly give their input and get feedback and
hear everyone's opinion. Therefore, the finance team will be able to set limits and improve
their teamwork skills as they will understand and gain an understanding of what not to do
within the team.
