The study completed was to quantify quantitative outcomes of a
practice change to a blended form of bedside nursing report
(SandJecklin & Sherman, 2014). To complete this study, the
researchers used a quasi-experimental pre- and postimplementation
design (Sand-Jecklin & Sherman, 2014). This type of research design
establishes a cause and effect between variables (Laureate Education,
2015).
Sample This study used seven medical-surgical units in a large mid-Atlantic
Selection university hospital (Sand-Jecklin & Sherman, 2014). Of these seven
medical-surgical units, patients were chosen that had been
hospitalized for at least 48 hours and were scheduled for discharge
from these units during the time of data collection (Sand-Jecklin &
Sherman, 2014). The study used a sample size of 302 patients/families
preimplementation and 250 post-implementation (Sand-Jecklin &
Sherman, 2014).
