Unit 1 – Business Environment

On completion of this unit I should:

1) Know the rage of different businesses and their ownership
2) Understand how businesses are organised to achieve their purposes
3) Know the impact of the economic environment on businesses
4) Know how political, legal and social factors impact on business

Task 1:
a) A brief introduction to the two local businesses. One business should be profit-
marketing; the other one should be non-for-profit. Your two businesses should vary in
size.
b) A description of the types of ownership of your two businesses.
c) A description of the purpose of your business, including the aims and objectives of
your organisation.
d) A description of the ownership of your business and why they have chosen or are that
type of ownership.

In this assignment I will be investigating two types of businesses as an editor of ‘Recorder’
shop in Durlem. The editor has asked me to prepare and produce articles in a pull-out section
titled ‘Business Review in Durlem’. In completion of this task I will need to describe two
local businesses, their types of ownership, type of marketing (profit/non-profit), size,
purpose, aims and their objectives.

In order to complete this unit I should pick tow businesses which are throughout my work
I’m going to use as an example in explanation and evaluation of all the key terms. I found
interesting to choose TESCO PLC and Durlem College as objects of my investigation. I think
they are good companies to pick because TESCO have a long experience in business and
Durlem College is a well-known local organisation.
