P2- Describe interventions that may be used to promote positive behaviour in health, social care
or early years’ context
There are various interventions available to promote positive behaviour in health, social care or early
years’ settings. These interventions vary between individuals and not everyone is a fan of some
types of interventions. But what are the possible interventions that can be used to promote positive
behaviour, how do they work and what do they involve? Well, in this task, I will tell you by describing
interventions that may be used to promote positive behaviour in health, social care or early years’
context.
Case study
For this task, I will be using a case study to refer to regarding interventions and the promotion of
positive behaviour. I will be making up my own case study and use a year 9 student who I will name
Tom.
Tom is regarded by the majority of staff as disruptive and naughty. In lessons he turns up late, never
likes to comply with the teacher’s tasks and is sent outside the room a lot of the time. This behaviour
begun on Tom’s introduction to the school in year 7 and nothing has worked in stopping it. At break
time, Tom likes to disturb, bully and use vulgar language towards other pupils and teachers. He
constantly complains of being ‘bored’ and regularly climbs over the gate to leave the premises.
Tom’s behaviour has gotten so bad, that it has led to Tom being constantly surveilled and
scrutinized. The school are struggling to cope with Tom’s behaviour and on numerous occasions
have they phoned his parents regarding possible removal, however, his parents don’t seem too
fussed.
With the case study of Tom explained, what interventions could be put into play to minimize his
naughty, disruptive behaviour and promote positive behaviour. How can Tom’s behaviour be
improved and what could the school do to promote and support this?
