M3 – Review the effectiveness of monitoring systems to identify deviations to planned use of
resources
Monitoring in general refers to the regular observation and recording of specific activities during a
specific time and place. The ideal purpose is to gather information on the scenario being analyzed. Upon
the development and progression in technology, many systems now take over the process of monitoring
within a business, in the hope that the results will be of better quality. Such examples of monitoring
systems includes: CVTV, Scheduling system (access keys), Finance reports, Tills (monitor employee sales)
and KPI (monitors performance).

Due To the fact McDonalds is an established franchise, there are many monitoring systems associated
with this business due to the fact that they are high maintenance and deal with a large consumer base
on a daily basis. A key monitoring system associated with McDonalds includes CVTV cameras within the
store site. This technology base is used as a form of protection surrounding the store, alongside a visual
copy of the types of activities that occur within the restaurant. Upon observing this feature first hand I
am able to conclude that the visuals produced are not of a high standard quality meaning that the
content is not of good quality or necessary usable if need be. However, having the cameras in place and
able to be visually seen by customers will issue the necssery anxiety associated with being caught, to
overall encourage consumers to not act upon any unlawful actions. This overall reduces the risk of
damage or unnecessary behavior occurring, which will create a safe environment for both the
employees of the stores, and customers. The device itself is checked on a regular basis by managers to
ensure that this safe environment mentioned is maintained which overall allows for an effective device.
Developing upon this, the CVTV camera is never turned off resulting in the store consistently being
under surveillance. The reason this is done is due to the fact there are many profitable assets within the
company that need to be monitored and safe from harm, even after the store has closed. Though this
particular will cost the company a specific amount due to the high level of usage, it overall will ensure
the effectiveness of this monitoring device is of the necessary standard. Finally, if a crime was to be
committed, the visuals caught on tape will be able to be used within a trial or caught case, which overall
will establish the safety of the store.

Another monitoring system known within McDonalds includes finance accounts. This document is
produced on a daily basis and is used to monitor the daily profit of the company, overall allowing for a
daily summarization as to how effective the company’s success has been. Upon the closing of the store a
manager, with finical knowledge, records the profit made within a software used by the company, but
also on a record sheet used as a physical copy of the accounts. Having two copies of the financial history
of the store will ensure for the most effective result due to the fact the paper copy is a physical backup
of the online one allowing for maximum efficiency (and vise-versa). The backup copy can also be used in
the event of a system failure or fire, at which the data recorded manually or within the data streams,
have been lost. It is essential for a company to monitor its finances to ensure the success of the business
as well as any necessary progress and improvements needed, are made. In summary, i believe this
monitoring system is of a high standard within this company due to the fact the information Is always
backed up, alongside the fact it is also of a good quality standard.

Overall all businesses have a variety of monitoring systems to ensure the success of the company,
alongside the progress. Not all the systems are of a good quality, and upon the development of
technology as time continues, these specific assets will surely improve.
