Evaluate how your own personal learning and
development may benefit others.
This essay will be the evaluation of how my personal learning and development could
potentially benefit others’, and perhaps actually improve their personal learning and
development too.
Firstly, one aspect of my personal learning and development is that I can understand the unit
specification and the assignment brief a lot better now than I could when I first started this
programme 9 months ago. Being able to understand the unit specification allows me to ensure
that I am including enough relevant information in my essays/reports, because I know that if
there is an “e.g.” in the specification, I need to include at least 50% of the following (whatever
is after the “e.g.”). If it just has “;” then I need to include all of them. Being able to understand
how to use the unit specification and the assignment brief too (sometimes the assignment brief
includes steps to do, or questions to be answered, for example) can benefit other people in
my class because I will be able to teach them. It can be quite confusing to get your head
around how the unit specification works, because it isn’t really set out clearly and even if you
know that “e.g.” means do 50%, and “;” means do 100% of the following, the way it is presented
and laid out can be overwhelming and confuse you, especially if you are already stressed out
or are overthinking it. By having this personal knowledge that developed over the course, I am
able to use it to potentially benefit others’ if required. I would be able to help use my personal
learning and development in this instance to benefit others’ as I would be able to give them
advice on how to ensure that they include all relevant criteria, in order to reduce the chance
that they get resubmissions. For example, the way I ensure that I include all necessary
information every time in each assignment is by going through the unit specification and
working out what I need to include, and creating a checklist in my book, so I can tick things off
as I go along. If somebody in my class was having trouble including enough – or the right –
things in their essays, I would be able to advise them on how to go through the specification
correctly, and would offer to assist them if they are really unsure of it. I could also send them
a photo of any checklists that I may have created myself so they could also benefit from that,
as by using a checklist it helps me to avoid talking about irrelevant information, and potentially
missing out on information that is necessary. To summarise this first potential benefit, I will be
able to use my knowledge and tips to pass on to others’, to help them to understand and also
help them to be more organised; thus saving time in the long run.
Second of all, because I look thoroughly through the assignment brief (which many of my
classmates’ don’t), it ensures that I am always presenting my work in the correct format. Some
format examples include writing it as an essay, a report, a table or a newspaper article. In
order to fit the correct format necessary, the way you lay your work out and whether you
include photographs or not for example, will depend. For example, when I need to present my
work in a newspaper article I include the name of the newspaper and a date, and then I go on
to write my work in two columns – in order to replicate the appearance of a newspaper – and
also include some photographs. Some peers in my class often do their work not fit for the
correct format, or they don’t know how to present their work correctly. I always help out people
in my class whenever I can, and I go out of my way to ask a couple of people if they need
help, as I know they often struggle or are having other problems making doing their work more
