What are - These were the first type of antipsychotics that were created, may be referred to as
conventional neuroleptics.
drugs and how - Created in the 1950’s
do they work - Bind to dopamine 2 receptor cells and perform antagonist action in order to reduce the
activity and release of dopamine 2.
- Have a 48-hour bind time.
- Reduce positive symptoms of schizophrenia.
- E.g hallucinations and delusions
What are a - These are the recent form of antipsychotic drugs, they have a shorter bind time of 24 hours
typical drugs - They perform agonist action on d1 receptors as well as antagonist action on d2 receptor
