P4 – Outline key legislation and regulations which govern safeguarding adults work:

Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act, this act protects those who are vulnerable and
are incapable of protecting themselves. It states that everyone who are in more
power than the vulnerable person, they should protect the vulnerable individual.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, this act protects those who have been the
criminal offenders in the drug regions, the act states that in some cases the criminal
past may be ignored in order to make the offenders life better. This only happens
after the rehabilitation period has been completed.

The Police Act: this act gives police a notice that they must protect those who are
vulnerable; this suggests that if someone from the police sector sees any type or form
of abuse, they must stop it due to the duty of the act.

Sexual Offences Act: this is used against those who have committed sexual offences
to others, this suggests that those who have been previously offended someone in a
sexual way, and they must keep them from harm or any type of abuse.

Care Standards Act: the administration of different regions e.g. hospital, residential
care home and more. The authorities of every health care centres must provide the
best and the top quality care as possible.

The Care Homes (Adult Placements) (Amendment) Regulations: this regulation states
that when an adult is being accepted with their placement, they must behave in the
correct manner at all times. It doesn’t matter where the individual works, they must
respect every other member or the service user and if they see any type of abuse, it
must be stopped immediately.

Mental Health Act: the mental health act protects those who have mental disabilities
and are unable to protect themselves from the abusers. People who are suffering
from mental disabilities could use this act in order to protect themselves.

Mental Capacity Act: this act protects everyone who is under the specific required
care, e.g. they might be under the treatment which might help them reduce the
symptoms of the mental disabilities they have. This act is directed to empower those
who are unable to protect themselves.

Disability Discrimination Act: this act protects people against discrimination, this act is
specifically directed at those who have disabilities and are vulnerable to the abusers.
The victims may use this act to reduce the negative behaviour directed at them.

The Race Relations Act: this act protects those who are being discriminated against
because of their race. It is important to ensure that every one of different races are
treated equally, which is what the race relations act has been created for.

Human Rights Act: this act states that everyone has human rights, they must be
treated equally and no one should be treated in a negative way. This act also states
that no human should hurt each other; this involves killing or any type of action
which could be harmful and cause damage to the individual.
