P5 Unit 11 Health and Social Care

P5- Outline working strategies and procedures used in health and social care to reduce the
risk of abuse:

In this assignment I will outline working strategies and procedures which are used in the
health and social care in order to reduce the risk of abuse.

One of the strategies which are used in the health and social care is the recruitment of staf.
This suggests that it is important to have the right corresponding procedures when there is a
demand in the staf. For example, this is when one of the members of the staf is unable to
assess the individual with an issue; therefore other members of staf could obtain the access
to the personal informaton no mater the individual’s background or who they were
working with. This could be seen as an efectve way to obtain the employees who are good
at their job and who are able to help someone with an issue without caring about their race,
natonality or whether they have a disability or not.

There are a few other strategies and procedures which are extremely important and are
used in the health and social care to reduce the risk of the abuse, these are, Protecton of
Vulnerable Adults Scheme (POVA), Vetng and Barring Scheme, Independent Safeguarding
Authority (ISA) and the role of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Relevant legislaton and
regulatons. These laws state that those who could beneft from these legislatons are those
who are vulnerable and are unable to protect themselves, which could then be used to
reduce the risk of abuse. I think that these laws could reduce the risk of abuse because if the
employee goes against this law, there is a risk of going to court and then followed by jail.
The reason why these are efectve is because the employees are less likely to abuse
someone due the risk of going to jail because of doing so. Another reason why these
legislatons could be used in order to reduce the risk of abuse is because as the Protecton of
Vulnerable Adults Scheme (POVA) states, there are people who are protectng the
vulnerable people and those who are unable to look afer themselves. This means that even
if someone was to try and abuse a vulnerable individual they would’ve been stopped
because of the understanding of the safeguarding rule of those who are vulnerable by other
employees. There are always people who know what is right and what is wrong, therefore
the risk of abuse is to be reduced with these legislatons and procedures.

Additonal legislaton which is used in the health and social care in order to reduce the risk
of abuse is the is the human rights act 1998 which protects people from being harmed, it
has been created in order to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. The act
states that it is wrong to hurt another human being, it is also against the law to kill anyone
at all. It talks about the fact that everyone has equal rights no mater what their background
is, what race they are or if they have a disability. It is important to treat everyone equally in
all situatons. This involves the ant-discriminaton act, which states that everyone must be
equal to each other, this means treated with respect and dignity. The ant-discriminaton
act, involves acts like sex discriminaton and the age discriminaton. Any type of the
