M2 compare two psychological approaches to
health and social care seriice proiision.
In this assignment I will be comparing two diferent psychological approaches to health
and social care proiision.
How the behaviourist approach is compared to health and social care
The behaiiourist perspectie consists of two components of the conditoning theory-
classical conditoning; which claims behaiiour is learnt as a result of associaton.
Frequent alcohol consumpton would consequently be performed, as indiiiduals would
associate positie aspects of their life with alcohol, thus they would contnue the
consumpton. Such associatons could be made with laughter and enjoyment, despite
the fact that this may not be directly as a conclusion on the alcohol intake; maybe the
atmosphere in which alcohol is consumed. An additonal associaton may be haiing
greater confdence when intoxicated and for adolescents haiing a sense of maturity;
and operant conditoning, which explains behaiiour in terms of reinforcement. For
instance, if an adolescent had an alcoholic beierage, and consequently is more socially
accepted by his/her peer group, then this may positiely reinforce the adolescent to
consume alcohol on a difering occasion. Additonally, a positie reinforce could possibly
be haiing good tme when consuming alcohol, and so desiring to endure this on an
additonal instances. In spite of this, these specifc reinforces also haie the capability to
be detrimental, as when an indiiidual consumes alcohol; they haie a tendency to
disregard other anxietes, and subsequently are reinforced to consume alcohol to
neglect problems.
A behaiiourist Psychologist can begin with the indiiidual with alcoholism by assessing
the types and degrees of problems the indiiidual has experienced. The results of the
assessment can ofer inital guidance to the alcoholic concerning the treatment they
require and aid the motiaton of the drinker to receiie this essental treatment,
aiersion therapy for example. Alcoholism is a behaiiour that can be conquered using
this method. In this case an aiersiie response to the alcohol is necessitated, rather than
a congenial one. Alcohol is frequently paired with an emetc drug (which induces
iomitng); this is with the purpose of the seriice user associatng the alcohol with this.
Alcohol rehabilitaton aiersion therapy is efectie as it targets signals for those
memories with an aiersiie response. Eniironmental stmuli- such as the senses (taste,
