Diversity and Equality of Services
Reviewing of service recruitment policies and procedures, and the promoton of equality and diversity
Policies are principles and guidelines, formulated and adopted by companies and organisatons in order to help
them achieve objectves with minimal barriers and prevent inappropriate behaviors. They are usually
published on an organisatons website, available to people in the form of a booklet, or put into any other form
that is widely accessible by all individuals, regardless of impairments. They are designed to infuence any major
decision or acton made by governing bodies of organisatons, setng general guidelines so that everybody can
abide by the clear boundaries they set, and the framework they present to which personnel can work to. This
ensures that all establishments meet legislaton requirements under the Human Rights Act.
Similarly, procedures are the partcular methods appointed to express policies. To elucidate; policies and
procedures work together to ensure that regulatons held by an organisaton are translated into steps,
resultng in a compatble outcome for any given situaton. Also involved are legislatons; these protect policies
by law. If law is breached, then a prosecuton procedure will take place - so, policies can be put into place to
protect employers and employees in the workplace, providing sanctuary to everybody, but especially to those
belonging to a minority group. For example, all companies in this country should have a regulaton against
racism. If there were to be a racial incident in the workplace, there would be a suitable procedure in place that
complies with the policy, so that the scenario could be dealt with efectvely and legally. Some of the policies
and procedures in place to help ensure an equal and diverse workforce are:
Equal opportunites and ant discriminaton policies
Grievance procedures
Bullying and harassment at work policies
Recording and monitoring of equal opportunites data and complaints
Complaint procedures for service users
Equal opportunites and ant discriminaton policies are put in place to outline standards of fair treatment for
employees during recruitment, selecton and throughout training. These standards are ofen based upon the
codes of good practce that are supplied by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which is an
independent statutory body established to prevent discriminaton. Relatng to this, grievance procedures are
the steps that are to be followed in the instance that an employee believes they are not being provided with
equal opportunites, or if they feel they have become the victm of discriminaton. Grievance procedures are
standardised and are used in cases where problems cannot be solved through informal means.
