what does franchise/suffrage mean? - Answer- The people eligible to vote (18+) in
the general election

What is democratic deficit? - Answer- When democratic organisations or institutions,
e.g. governments, don't fulfill the principles of democracy in how they operate. It's
mainly used the discussions over the government of the UK when referring to the
government of the EU (UK is subject to directives from EU and rulings from the
European Court of Justice.

What does legitimacy emans? - Answer- The right and acceptance of an authority,
with the government doing things in terms of policy and law making that are acceptable
to the citizens of the state.

what is participation crisis? - Answer- Where a large proportion of the population
don't engage with the political process e.g. by not voting in the elections. Declining
membership of political parties is another potential indicator of a participation crisis.

What are the reasons against the UK experiencing a participation crisis? - Answer-
There is an increase in the number of pressure groups and memberships. There is an
increase in political social media campaigning. There is an increase in direct action.
