Compare the habitus you brought in when you first started at UCSB to the
position in the field you are in now. Then, predict how your present position,
new habitus, and new capital you attained will affect your future endeavors. -
correct answer ✔Upon entering UCSB, I would say that my habitus was
premature compared to the level that it is now.
As a freshman placed in a new environment, I was barely beginning to adapt
to the to the culture and social life on campus. My cultural capital was at a low
because I came in unexposed to the various cultural backgrounds that exist
outside of my own, which made it harder to adapt and acquire a more diverse
perspective.
the habitus that I gained growing up was mainly influenced by fields such as
family, public schools, sports, friends, etc.
my family background influenced both my economic and cultural capital as my
family exposed me to life lessons, morals, and religious beliefs, habits and
manners which I then applied to my habitus to navigate me through UCSB.
upon receiving these qualities, I was also exposed to recreational sports and
clubs throughout high school which I applied to my habitus to build a
teamwork character that helped me in classes alike this very one.
the economic capital I hold while attending UCSB puts me at a lower scale
than that of a more privileged individual. however, by attending a university
and gaining a higher education, I am allowing my economic capital to rise and
influence my habitus in a positive manner. this will of course affect my future
endeavors by allowing me access to a high paying job and a higher degree,
and ultimately a higher class position. The present position I am now will help
build a higher class status for myself and help me raise my capitals. The field I
pertain to is the field of higher education as a student in college. This will
affect my future by first raising my social capital as I interact with professors
and students and utilize networks around me in order to gain access to new
resources and support.
Belonging to this field will also contribute to my symbo

, Compare and contrast how a student at UCSB with a dominated (bottom
class) (Distinction Bourdieu 1984) habitus in social space, with a low volume
and composition of cultural, economic, social and symbolic capital influence
his/her behavior in the social field at a bar (like dargen's, sharkeez, etc) with
the behavior of an individual with a dominant habitus (top class) in social
space, with a high volume and composition of all four capitals in this same
setting at a bar in this social field?

- the conversation they carry would both be very different , high class would
portray a much broader vocabulary and extensive knowledge in topics of
intellect., whereas the low class individual would carry a much more casual
conversation. the way in which we speak and exercise our vocabulary is also
reflective of our amount of capital as many of the vocabulary we learn comes
from our exposure to it during our childhood upbringi - correct answer ✔an
individual
Draw connection from both individuals in placement of figure 5
the first individual would be placed at the bottom of the figure, displaying a low
variability of overall capital volume and would likely display characteristics of
the pertaining class in the social field. A UCSB student with a low volume of
capital would portray less experience with social networking and is likely to
come from a rural background and a low income status.
the bottom class individual would have a low amount of economic capital and
would have limited access to higher resources like private schooling prior to
attending UCSB along with additional private learning resources such as SAT
prep courses, tutoring sessions, etc.
The student's low class would imply that he or she has a low cultural capi6tal
as they were not exposed to high material forms such as a high ranked
school, arts, sophistication, etc. this then limits the person's success and
determine their behavior here at UCSB.
In terms of social capital, the first student would have limited access to
networks, and therefore not build social relationships which they can gain
opportunities from. all the capitals the individual possesses weave in together
