Synopsis of "A Christmas Carol" - ANSWER Ebeneezer Scrooge, a cold-hearted
creditor, is in his office on Christmas Eve. He rejects an invitation to a Christmas dinner,
from his nephew, Fred; he yells at charity workers; and he overworks his employee, Bob
Cratchit. That night, his deceased partner Jacob Marley, who has been dead for seven
years, appears to him as a ghost. He has come to warn Scrooge and maybe save him
from his fate. He tells him that Three Spirits will come to him that night. He falls to sleep
and wakes up to find the Ghost of Christmas Past. The Ghost shows Scrooge scenes
from the past that trace Scrooge's development from a young boy, to a young man with
the first traces of greed that would deny love in his life. Scrooge shows new emotion
when revisiting these scenes. Scrooge goes back to sleep and is awakened by the
Ghost of Christmas Present. He shows Scrooge several current scenes of Christmas,
then shows him the Cratchit household. Then, the Ghost tells Scrooge that if the future
is not changed, the Cratchit's crippled son, Tiny Tim, shall die. He also reveals to him the
party at Fred's house. Then, the other ghost is succeeded by the Ghost of Christmas Yet
To Come. He shows a number of scenes to Scrooge where people are talking about
someone's death. Nobody happens to be grieved from the death, and most are pleased
concerning the fact. Yet, Scrooge doesn't know, however, who this man is. He learns
that Tiny Tim has died, but that the Cratchits remain united and loving. Finally, Scrooge
discovers that he himself was the man who died and whose death pleased people alone.
He wants these visions of the future to change and vows to combine the lessons of the
past, present, and future in his adoption of the Christmas spirit. Scrooge awakens in his
bedroom, learning it is Christmas Day. In addition to smiling and being friendly to all he
