UNIT 6
THE ROLE
HEALTH ANDOFSOCIAL
THE
WORKER
1.) Understanding working relationships in health and social care.
1.1 - Explain how a working relationship is different from a personal
relationship.
• Personal relationship – A personal relationship is an informal
relationship you have with your partners, friends and family. A
personal relationship usually involves having strong emotional
connections with one another.

• Working relationship – A working relationship is a formal relationship
and can be a relationship had with your colleagues and managers and
nurses. A working relationship focusses on building trust,
communicating and working together to achieve a positive outcome
within the workplace.

1.2 - Describe different working relationships in health and social care
settings.
There are many different kinds of working relationships in a health and
social care setting, some examples include;
• Care Assistants and colleagues
• Residents family and friends
• Managers and Nurses
• Outside healthcare workers such as a District Nurse or a Doctor
Each working relationship should be handled in a different way, the
conversations or jokes you share with your fellow care assistants and work
colleagues may not be appropriate with your Manager or Nurse in charge.
It is important to remain professional at all times and to avoid turning a
working relationship into a personal relationship.

2.) Be able to work in ways that are agreed with the employer.
