Introduction
I will be planning and conducting my research on the topic of liquidation of
Thomas Cook. Moreover this repot will have a detailed analysis of results
from my research data, as well as explaining how the proposed plan will
enablable me to benefit from using it for my research. I will then be
evaluating the research and recommend improvements to my research
skills in the future.
The setting of hypothesis
Due to the recent development, internet has become more accessible to
tourists, many prefer to book parts of their holiday by themselves for a
cheaper price rather than booking through a travel agent who charges
commission. Due to this, many travel and tourism companies have
suffered including Thomas Cook. In this report, I will find out what
happened to Thomas cook and answer questions that many people have
regarding their downfall this is because this issue had affected an large
sum of people which would give them an interest in reading this research ,
Terms of reference
Liquidation -Liquidation is the process where the business ends due to
their financial situation. They are usually caused due to debts or the
business not being popular anymore and therefore getting less customers.
Bankrupt –businesses being unable to pay back what they owned due to
taking loans (debt)
Leakage –The income generated does not stay within the company or
country due to other factors in a situation.
Tour operator – Thomas cook was an vertically integrated tour operator
meaning that they sold holiday packages to an wide range of people ,
their services included the travel agents , transfer, flight and
accommodation from their own or sister companies . Meaning that most of
the income stayed within the company as all the aspects belonged to
them.
Unemployment – Thomas cook has left many people unemployed,
meaning that people were left without jobs causing them to struggle until
they found a new one.
