Red Scare
The red scare was the fear of communism.
The first red scare occurred from 1919-20 after the Bolshevik takeover of Russia.
The second red scare began after tensions climbed at the end of WW2.
Reasons for red scare:
Federal Loyalty Boards (FLB) were set up to find and remove any communists from government.
Between 1947 and 1951, 3 million government employees were investigated and around 3000
people were fired or forced to resign.
HUAC (House Committee on Un-American Activities) was set up in 1938 to monitor extremist groups.
In 1947, it began investigations on the threat of the Communist Party of America.
