An essay that responds to four set prompts in about 500 words each. Responses are written across weeks and involve well-rounded references to readings within set essential and recommended lists. Responses explore the necessity of initiation rituals, how perception shapes ethnographic research, the value of comparative reasoning, and how to tell a personal ethnographic story.

Two 1,500-word essays responding to the assigned prompts: Why is the house a potent symbol for anthropological analysis and Why do rituals heal? Both responses are well-researched and focus on large scope, cross-cultural observations obtained through extensive reading. Bibliography is extensive and widespread, crossing topic lines and demonstrated a well-rounded knowledge of the topic.
