once a nice dinner, has now evolved into a race against time before the baby gets cranky. Life
can seem like its flying by with every midnight feeding. Parenting has its moments of both
triumph and despair. Not every situation will be a made for TV Hallmark moment.Downs (2015)
explains how there will be times in life where we find ourselves in situations that aren’t ideal,
yet we must overcome these obstacles and make the best of a bad situation.
“Tim Gunn and a leaky shower: Welcome to my life, little guy” is an essay detailing the
difficult situations a new mother endures just one week after emergency cesarean surgery and the
delivery of her son. The upstairs shower in her condo has sprung a leak and is now dripping into
the garage below. Her landlord has chosen the cheapest contractors to perform the necessary
repairs. Unfortunately, she must be the one to stay and oversee the construction of the shower.
As the situation grows in difficulty, she finds a means of escape while watching reruns of Project
runway and makes a revelation that not every situation will be ideal.
The author finds herself setting up camp in the living room with her newborn baby for the
meantime. With the constant foot traffic and banging of sledgehammers, the thought of sleep
seems unattainable. She makes her best efforts to comfort her son, “This baby didn’t sleep. Not
