Task and situation analysis

What is task and situation analysis strategies mean? It means that the teacher in the

special education classroom would break down some tasks or assignments into their

components parts. The reason behind these changes is to make it easier for a student with

LD to manage and understand a task. Breaking an assignment into two or three sections

and teaching them at different times would make the work more understandable and easier

to do for students with multiple disabilities. In Special education it is not important the

amount of work that students should do, it is more importantly the amount of knowledge

they would gain.

For example, students with disabilities should learn some life skills at the beginning of the

school year such as hanging their coats in the classroom closet, and this skill does not easily

teach as

you think it should be. Students with a physical disability and intellectual disability might

have some problems with this skill because of their disability, the next step teaching them

how to put their book bags in the closet, and how to get their materials out before each class

starts (Bright Hub Education, 2020). Task and situation analysis requires problem solving

skills and decision making. When teaching different skills, you want to use positive

reinforcement. The skill will consist of constant repetition until the skill is mastered. When

, giving instructions we have to break down what we want the student to do so they will be

able to process the directions. But, educators have to be consistent when teaching the

students how to transition or learn new material.

Reading instructions

There are many different strategies that can be used with students who have physical

or health related disabilities. You can use SLANT which means sit up, lean forward, ask

question, nod your head, track the teacher. Classroom environment, sit student where you can

easily access

them, lighting issue under a row a lights that are turned off, color highlight their materials,

Approaches to teaching

Teaching students with special needs can be a complex task that requires a lot of challenges.

When teaching reading there are many different approaches we have to take to master the

needs of the student. We do not want to give them too many tasks to do at one time. Reading

should be a task within itself. Find out what the students knows to determine how you can

better assist them. Give students different options when they are completing their

assignments. Know their disability and use their assistive technology as a source for the

assignment, some examples are they can use expressing responses to a scribe through

speech, word processor where they can speak into or type on, an audio recorder.
