Property, plant and equipment are tangible assets. It is used in normal operations. It is also
held by companies until it is no longer of any service to the entity. Once the potential has
been exhausted the asset is derecognised and disposed of. From the acquisition all the way
through to derecognition of assets these items are recorded in an entity’s financial statements.
The aim of this study was to investigate international critique with respect to IAS 16.
Chapter one introduced the study. Chapter two presented an overview of literature related the
subject. The core terminologies were discussed. References were made throughout the study.
Chapter three discussed the methodology used in this study. Chapter four analysed the results
of the study and presented the findings in the form of graphs and pie charts. This chapter will
be presenting the conclusions on this study.
5.2 Achievements of the objectives
5.2.1 Objective 1: A brief overview of the Standard
A proper discussion on Property, plant and equipment was provided. The overview given was
brief and provides enough detail on the subject matters discussed in this study.
5.2.2 Objective 2: Positive international critique with respect to the Standard (perceived

• inherits the depreciation value which shows what the actual market value of an asset
is;
