NURSING MS C922 Pain management post knee replacement
Knee replacement is a common surgical and reliable procedure aimed at restoring function and relieving patient’s pain that has damaged or degenerative knee joints. However, the surgery causes postoperative pain which can hinder clinical improvements and delay rehabilitation process among the patients (Patel et al, 2014). Pain management is a challenging process but an integral intervention during post-operative care (Lewis et al., 2015). Based on such premise, it is important for nurses to prepare the patients psychologically prior to the procedure to ensure they are aware of the whole process. Preparing them in advance ensures that they are better informed on what they should expect during and after the procedure have been carried out. Through the information, patients are able to own and persevere through any pain after the process with confidence that it is for their own good (Moghtadaei et al, 2014). Health providers employ various techniques for postoperative analgesia following the procedure to help in relieving pain and assist the patients in the recovery process. Knee replacement is now preferred by many people suffering from chronic arthropathy and whose conditions have failed to improve even after undergoing conservative management process (Patel et al, 2014). Such fact makes it very necessary for health providers to have sufficient pain management skills to manage post-operative pain among patients. Knee replacement surgery entails more details than the procedure itself, thus, health providers should prepare themselves and the patients in advance to minimize pain and reduce the stress involved in surgical procedures (Moghtadaei, 2014). The paper will highlight various factors that make it necessary for a patient to undergo knee replacement surgery. It will also discuss how the recovery process can be optimized to ensure pain is managed successfully for optimal clinical improvements. The paper will show various techniques which can be employed by health providers to relieve patients’ pain and assistance required after the procedure. .............................................Continued.............................................
