MT140M4 – Global Management Skills
Competency Assessment
Current economy and environmental shifts lead to a change in the business world. As
technology advances, so does the work force. Careers are now being completed remotely, and
business can communicate instantaneously around the globe. While the manufacturing
division
of PG Industries incorporates a new training program starting in its headquarters in Texas, it then
must push this development to its branches in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Japan. This
creates a unique challenge cultural borders are being crossed and each branch handles business
in different ways.
Managers are faced with challenges in the global management environment. These
challenges are numerous, and each require skill to address. In today’s environment, working
from home is becoming a new normal. This allows workers to not only work at jobs that are
located near to them, but it also opens the ability to work global jobs. While this expands a
worker’s horizons, it also allows business to reach multiple demographics (Bateman,
Thomas.,
2020,
p.222).
The technology used to connect also makes work easier, and as technology advances, so
does the global workforce. Managers must be prepared to understand that as work from home
and technology increase, so does the need for time management to connect with individuals
and groups via web meetings, train individuals on technological advances and company policy.
Global managers must also be prepared to encounter a diverse workforce.
