In any line of business, quality assurance is necessary. As the needs and standards of

operations, medical protocol, or even community necessities demand, healthcare organizations

must remain current in meeting these demands all while maintaining quality assurance. In

healthcare, quality is of great importance. The lack of quality can have damaging effects on

various stakeholders. For a facility lack of quality can result in a lack of trust and tarnish a

reputation. In patients, a lack of quality can result in a life-or-death situation.

In efforts to gauge how well healthcare organizations are meeting, exceeding, and in

some instances deficient, quality measures are used to identify standards. Quality measures

provide a realistic view of progression, stagnancy, and leanness. By taking the appropriate steps

in quality assurance organizations can assure they are operating at peak performance which has

benefits beyond measure.

One method that is commonly used to aid with quality measurements are surveyed.

Surveys are a data collection method that evaluates collected data based on individual

experiences and approaches. By collecting and analyzing data from the surveys, hospitals have a

better understanding of their patient’s thoughts on the care they have received while in the

facility. Patients have the ability to provide information not only based on the patient care with a

healthcare professional but with all hospital staff, they have come in contact with.

In addition to patient surveys governed by hospital leadership teams, CMS has their

assessment which is the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems
