Research Article

Background Introduction

, The research article was taken from the Journal of Pediatric Nursing 41. The purpose of

the study was to review the viewpoint of the nurses, pediatric patients, and their family members

about bedside reporting in relation to the safety of the pediatric patients and the satisfaction of

everyone involved.

Methodology

The method used by these researchers was an exploratory-descriptive qualitative design,

utilizing 25 nurses, nine patients, and six family members. The interview preparation took place

over six months; five interviews were conducted during the day shift, and ten interviews took

place during the night shift.

Level of Evidence

This was a level III research article.

Data Analysis
Thematic content analysis was used to analysis the data. A few of the nurses and the

investigators reviewed and transcribed the interviews for themes that were common.

Ethical Considerations

Participants willingly participated in the study, and the study received ethical approval

through the appropriate institutional review board.

Quality Rating

Low quality: When looking at this study, it only conducted 15 patient and family

interviews, which is an insufficient sample size. Furthermore, of the 15 interviewed, only nine

were patients. It is unknown how many of the participants were Spanish or English speaking.

Analysis of the Results / Conclusions

The research study by Bigani and Correia (2018) concluded that bedside reporting between

nurses increased patient safety and satisfaction in hospitalized pediatrics patients, which supports

the EBP question because the nurses, patients, and their families were all "on the same page."
