Impact of the Problem on the Patient

The impacts on the patient pertaining to diabetes education are many. Without education

about the disease and how to manage and properly control type 2 diabetes patients have an

increased risk for developing complications related to the disease. Education about lifestyle

changes and management can increase the quality and quantity of life for individuals diagnosed

with the type 2 diabetes. The issue at hand is that there is not enough time being designated to

individuals with type 2 diabetes for education.

Impact of the Problem on the Organization

Organizations are impacted by patient education of their diseases. Poor diabetes control

impacts the health care system and organizations. Patients with multiple diabetes complication

can require increased emergency visits, amputations, and can financially impact costs and care in

the community. The chronic illness is often a cause for patients to have difficulties financially.

The cost of the care is placed on the healthcare system and in turn costs rise to cover the deficit

the hospital is accumulating.

increased hours in a home setting and include family members while others are educated with the

minimal and basic care that we see currently provided. Participants include volunteering
