In this module, I learned about the different types of communication and which is the best

to use in my future endeavors. There are a handful of communication techniques such as passive,

aggressive, passive-aggressive, assertive, dismissive, and shaming. I learned that being assertive

is the best form of communication as it ensures the rights of the person and their clients are

respected and understood. I also learned that SBAR (situation, background, assessment, and

recommendation) will be a part of my everyday routine as a nurse. SBAR assist in reporting to

the oncoming nurse and providers. After watching the case study video, I noticed that the

communication between Lucy and Francis was ineffective. Neither one of them used assertive

communication and I noticed that the environment seemed to have more tension. Watching this

module I realized that I have had incidences where I also participated in ineffective

communication. Seeing it from the outside makes a big difference and I now feel like I have the

correct tools to avoid it in the future. Another topic we reviewed was organizational

communication this included lines of authority, organization size, formal and informal structures.
