The importance of maintaining professionalism in for any forensic psychologist is a
code of ethics and principals they maintain in their career. APA Ethical Principles for
Psychologist Code of conduct states that if a psychologist “ethical responsibilities conflict with
law, regulations, or other governing legal authority,” it is up to the psychologists to make

responsible manner,” (APA 2018). Maintaining professionalism/objectivity is significant in
Kathy Hall case, since it is dealing with trauma/mental health. Under 3.04 Avoiding harm, the
psychologist must take “reasonable steps to avoid harming their clients/patients, students,
supervisees, research participants, organizational clients, and others with whom they work, and
to minimize harm where it is foreseeable and unavoidable,” with Kathy case, the forensic
psychologist assessment must be done delicate and should not cause any more harm that Kathy
has suffer (APA, 2018). Confidentiality is very important in the case too. The lawyers, judge,
and court should be the
only ones receiving Kathy assessment the forensic psychologist reports back and keep any
results quiet. In other assessments, the information shared is only kept between the
forensic psychologist and the client.
Personal biases that can impact forensic psychologist can be the lawyers, judge, client,
and outside elements. With the case of Kathy, biases can be formed with her mental health
condition, her high-school education, and her socioeconomic statues. However, it is up to the
psychologist to “navigate a complex process of seeking relevant information while maintaining
an objective outlook and remaining mindful of potential bias that may undermine or limit their
