Virtual Assignment #5
Jacque Power
Part 1: Teen Rebellion
1.In my own life, I was the teenager who wanted to fit in and be a part of the popular crowd. This meant going against what my parents have always taught me, make good choices and respect others. In order to fit in with them I chose to skip classes sometimes, drink on weekends at the young age of 16 and stay out past curfew. Although, my parents were not super strict I knew I was going against their values they taught me, and I felt rebellious. This is considered rebellion as stated in the article, rebellion of non-compliance.
2.I would respond to this kind of behavior with a little disappointment and anger. A parent’s role is to raise and teach a child to be the best they can be, but to see them making choices that affect that would make me very sad. I would implement punishment but not in a full grounding sort of way. I would become more hesitant and over-parent the teenager to make them feel suffocated as there is a lack of trust. This will cause the teenager to break down and hopefully come to their senses of the wrong choices being made. I would let the consequences come out themselves as it would teach the teenager how certain choices result in certain things. This type of punishment is factored in based on how teenagers view themselves as invincible, so a subtle, not overwhelming punishment won’t send them into a frenzy. I would respond this way based off of personal experience as I would be the teenager to react abruptly to punishment and full-on rebel. 3.I am personally shocked by how early rebellion in early adolescence starts. I always assumed right when you turn 13 or get to high school more of the rebellion unfolds, but the early age of 9 is very shocking to me. I believe this is the case because now that I am 21, I view 9 to be very, very young when in fact I was probably very sassy and wanted to be a rebel. Part 2: Body Art
1.I am from Georgia and our laws are very reasonable. They state that no one under the age of 18 is to be tattooed without parent approval as well as no tattoo within an inch of
the eye socket. 2.I believe these laws are very restrictive concerning tattoos and body art. The law allows an individual to drive at the age of 16 without parent supervision but restricts one to put
a tattoo on their own body. It can be confusing to many considering driving can affect others and put them in danger while a tattoo on one individual does not. There are different types of parents as some are relaxed and others are more strict on these matters. Stricter parents lead to more rebellious teenagers and more situations such as going behind parents backs and doing the tattoo themselves therefore the law should not be until the child is considered an adult to avoid possible dangers of these rebellious
teenagers.
3.I would be very upset with my virtual child is she were to go behind my back and get a tattoo in a more dangerous way. I would want the relationship with my daughter to
